Why are corpers still being posted to the North?

Tomisin

Despite repeated reports of bombings, killings and mass murder that have been taking place in northern states in the past 2 years or so, the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) establishment are still posting corpers to Northern Nigeria. If you recall,  this site led the campaign to withdraw corpers from the north after the post election violence in 2011. You can read some of those postings here.  This was roughly a year and a half ago. It boggles my mind that despite the fact that the situation is still as dangerous and volatile as ever , corpers are still being posted there. I cannot understand it. It is outrageous! Do we not read the news?  How can anybody with blood running in their veins justify these kinds of postings? How?

I had to go to the North East earlier this week like I told you all, and I was terrified. Everybody who knew me was afraid when I told them where I was going. They told me to dress very conservatively and maintain a low profile. The state I visited still has a curfew in effect. Commercial activities are basically dead. The night before we left, we were told not to leave the hotel because there were rumors of an impending attack. The rumors turned out to be false, but the damage to the psyche was already done. I only stayed there two nights and I was so glad to leave. Can you imagine sending defenseless kids to that kind of toxic environment for a year? Always looking over your shoulder, always afraid? In addition to the actual terror of an attack? Go back and read some of those old stories and see what those corpers who were attacked during elections went through.

I am completely outraged that an insensitive government would still post corpers to those states despite everything. At this point, it is just a wicked thing to do. Why should anyone be posted to Kaduna or Kano right now? I am even more disappointed that parents and corpers are just taking this lying down. Influential kids are redeploying while the poor will be placed in the line of fire. Where is the outrage? Where is the protest? Why we all dey siddon look?

You may say – this is not an issue related to christianity per se – why are you posting it?  It is an issue related to JUSTICE! JUSTICE! We need justice in this land. Justice is necessary for our country to survive. A land without justice will soon crumble. I was just so saddened to see this thread on nairaland this morning. And when I started to read some of the responses of some of these kids my heart just broke. They are afraid – for a good reason!

Please, if you happen to stumble across this post and you have the ear of NYSC administrators, or you have access to information that can help even one corper to avoid going to these war zones, please enlighten us.

The pictures I have posted above are pictures of some of the  corpers who were killed in post election violence in 2011. Have we learned no lessons from their tragic loss? Any NYSC official with internet access to explain to us what the rationale behind these ridiculous postings are?

What kind of country is this?
