Ibadan residents complain about noise pollution by churches

I totally feel their pain. Like I have said in previous posts, I hope the fresh air blowing in Lagos with regards to this matter will spread to other South Western States. Governor Ajimobi, over to you.

RESIDENTS of Orita- Challenge area in Ibadan, have called on the Oyo State government and the Ministry of Environment in the state to check the alarming rate of noise polution being perpetrated by church owners in the area.

According to Mr Samuel Ogunmola, a property owner in the area, “although I am a Christian and I believe in the words of God, but the rate at which these church owners in this area were going about their business had now reached an annoying stage. “The noise blaring from their speakers from morning till night every working day is not appropriate with due respect to Christians. The state government should emulate its Lagos State counterpart by curbing the menace of noise population by closing down such churches,” he said.

According to a tailor at Omoleye area, Orita Challenge, “can you hear the noise emanating from the church facing this area? This is a torture I witness everyday, this is early in the morning and the noise won’t stop till maybe in the evening. What annoys me the most is that whenever they pray, their prayer point is always about enemies not wanting them to progress or for the spiritual doors of success be opened for them, how can this prayer be answered if you don’t work for it? People are out there struggling to earn a living and hustling to make success and you are here, Monday till Friday in the church begging for a miracle to happen? Its absurd.”

According to a resident, who identified himself as Bayo, “this area, is notorious for these kind of disturbance, for example, I work in a factory where I resume at night and come home in the morning, coming to the house in the morning is always a nightmare as I won’t be able to sleep or rest due to the noise emanating from churches around here.

“It is understandable if they blare the speakers on Sundays during worship but why in God’s name do they blare noise speakers on working days from noon to dusk? I just can’t understand,” he said.
